Ciril Hočevar
Ciril Hočevar studied civil engineering and fine arts in parallel and completed both studies. Although he was almost tempted by the work of a structural engineer, in 1992 he gave up his permanent job, acquired the status of a freelance cultural worker, and devoted himself to artistic work.
Since the early seventies, his work has been focused on figurative art, on the human figure, especially the female figure, which was most likely influenced by Zdenko Kalin, Hočevar’s professor at the Academy.
He casts sculptures in various materials, especially using artificial resins, both in his sculptural work and in the production of museum dolls.
Ciril Hočevar has also managed to find freshness in a motif that has been depicted so many times, such as the female figure.
A favorite motif of the sculptor Ciril Hočevar is “Lepa Vida” (Beautifull Vida), the heroine of a folk ballad, which also inspired the poet France Prešeren.
