The Bohinj national costume is similar to the costume of the Gorenjska region, but it does have some distinctive features. All the women’s costumes have in common a headdress a ruffled, lace-trimmed white shirt, and a wide, ribbon-trimmed blue skirt. Some versions also have a long brownish cardigan with slits at the sides and a green border around the neck and sleeves. The colour of the stockings also varies.
All the men’s costumes have in common a white shirt, a dress that goes just over the waist, a wide-brimmed hat, and short trousers made of black or brown dyed sheepskin, goatskin, deerskin and chamois. They have a slit at the side with buttons or ribbons for tying. The trousers are pressed above or below the knee, depending on the footwear. When they are boots with a turned-up hem, the trousers are shorter. Wool socks in natural wool colour and low boots are also popular.
These are just some of the characteristics of Bohinj’s costume.
