All Gorjanci women’s costumes have in common a white blouse with wide ruffled sleeves and a large colourful scarf with edging that wraps around the shoulders. The girls pin the scarf at the front and attach it to their waists, adding a bouquet of flowers on special occasions. A ruffled apron decorated with a ribbon and a large bow covers the richly ruffled skirt in different colours (blue, green, red, brown, or grey).
On the right side of the waist, just at the hips, they wear a folded handkerchief decorated with lace. The white cotton cap, tied in a knot at the top of the head, is made of cotton and decorated with lace, but in some places, it is only trimmed. The stockings are white and knitted.
Men wear a mandatory white shirt with ruffled sleeves and a collar, under which they like to pin a carnation. Dark trousers are pressed above or below the knee, depending on the footwear. When boots are worn, the trousers are shorter. White stockings, a waistcoat without a jacket, and a hat were also popular.
These are just some of the characteristics of the Gorjanci costume.
