Lujo Vodopivec, academic sculptor and professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana, is despite his extensive and varied sculptural oeuvre, known to the general public primarily for his clay and bronze horses.
Massive, artistically static, and heavy horses symbolize strength and durability and also decorate the Ljubljana fountain in front of the Union Hotel.

Some of his works are included in the permanent collection of the Modern Gallery in Ljubljana.
