Carinthian women’s costume is characterized by a ruffled dress worn over a white linen shirt. The upper part of the dress is covered by a large, colorful shawl with fringes tied at the back. The aprons are made of patterned brocade and extend just above the dress, and there is »avbica« on the head, with a decorative bow at the back.
The most prominent piece of the men’s Carinthian costume is the waistcoat, which consists of two front pieces and one back piece. The back used to be cut from cheaper material »klot«, but nowadays waistcoats have not only a practical purpose but also a decorative one. The front is made of black velvet with flowers embroidered on it and decorated with metal, sometimes silver buttons. Underneath the waistcoat is a white linen shirt and a neckerchief tied around the neck. The wide-brimmed hat was often decorated with a pin.
These are just some of the features of the Carinthian costume.
