\nThe Gorenjska women’s costume has many internal variations, and the basis consists of a white linen shirt, a large colorful scarf with fringes, draped around the shoulders and tucked at the waist in front, and a skirt reaching to the ankles. Sometimes girls wore one or more pleated petticoats under their skirts to make them look more voluminous and thus richer and more desirable. In some places, unmarried girls had a veil on their head, but mostly the headdress was a pecha or avba.
\nMen wear a short pink vest with metal buttons over a white shirt or a short jacket with lapels and long sleeves. Irharce trousers meet high, slightly over-the-knee boots. On the head, a poncho or a wide-brimmed hat. A large red and colorfully bordered umbrella, also called the Carniola marela or “Jewish parasol”.
