In ancient cultures, the apple was a symbol of spring, blossoming, and fertility. It was believed that it protects against illness, and the proverb still applies today: “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”.
The apple often appears in Greek mythology as the golden apple, which is a symbol of knowledge and the search for balance between good and bad. The motif of the golden apple also appears in many fairy tales.
The best known is “Snow White” by the Brothers Grimm, the Slovenians have the old folk tale “The Tale of the Golden Apples”, and the Poles have its version “The Glass Mountain”.
The apple also has the meaning of forbidden fruit and symbolizes temptation and sin.
