Mountain flowers have always been attractive to humans. Perhaps because they grow in very harsh, high mountain conditions where survival is very difficult.
Plants have adapted in different ways to long and cold winters, short summers, low temperatures, strong ultraviolet radiation, wind, lack of water, and shallow and poorly nourishing soils. Some with intense flower color and dwarf, cushion-like growth, others with fleshy or hairy leaves. People also wanted mountain flowers in their homes, which led to fewer and fewer of them in the mountains, that’s why many are now protected. When we think of the blue-flowering clusia, we most often think of its common name, gentiana.
The reputation of gentiana spread in our region with the popular song by musician Slavko AvsenikaTam, kjer murke cveto′, in which he sings about it as follows: “…there, where the blue gentiana all too gloriously is gently inviting”.
