Artists rarely have the opportunity to make work in which they can express all their imagination and creativity without hindrance. Industrialist and art collector Adolfa Stoclet is one of those rare clients of works of art who knew how to surrender to the artist’s ideas. This is how a beautiful mural was created in the Stoclet mansion in Brussels, for which Klimt spent more than 6 years in his workshop. The image consists of three elements – Fulfillment, Tree of Life and Expectation.
Expectation presents a female figure trapped in a maze of triangles, and Klimt himself believed that behind the Stoclet Palace he had reached “the final stage in his exploration of ornament”. According to some critics, the central golden color represents life, so the painting has not only an aesthetic value, but behind it hides a whole network of different interpretations.
