Beehive panels
“You, lazy boys, imitate this little, hard-working fly”!
The painted beehive panels that flourish on the front of the beehives are part of Slovenian folk history and a story about the originality and rich imagination of their creators. The years from 1820 to 1880 are considered to be the golden age of panels, but after the Second World War, this extremely beautiful and simple folk craft slowly died out. Through the rich collection of various motifs on the beehive panels, we can get to know priceless stories, fairy tales and tales from the past. Each one told a story with its details: mostly about everyday farm life, folk craft products and animals. Saints and other religious motifs often appeared on them. The motifs of historical and war events and all other memories of that time are also priceless. Motifs that make fun of professions bring us, even today (centuries after their creation) a smile and enthusiasm for the originality and ingenuity of a simple person.
