Pottery is one of the oldest crafts in Slovenia. The products made by Slovene potters differ from one region to another in accordance to their shape, ornaments, as well as their function. In addition to different bowls, water and wine jugs, pots and saucepans and other dishes for everyday use, earthenware animal figures are very popular. Earthenware horse figure (with or without a rider) with which you can also whistle became the trademark symbol of potters from Ribnica. Since the horse is made in a way where you have to whistle in it at the tail's end, it is still roguishly called “a horse which through its backside whistles”.
